Try this to feel more ‘safe’ when navigating change

If you’ve never rock-climbed before or haven’t been rock-climbing in 25 years, what is the chance you’d go out one day and scale a rock wall without any helmet, harness, ropes, safety net, or fall pad?

Most people aren’t going to do that because it isn’t safe.

Being new to something or being really out of practice can be scary, daunting or intimidating - aka unsafe. If you’ve spent a lot of time limiting your joy, guess what? Experiencing joy may have become unsafe.

While your head may tell you it “should be easy,” your body is reacting like you’re about to scale that Colorado rock face free-solo. There’s not a lot your head can do if you’re shaking, sweating, nauseated with fear, or barely able to take a deep breath.

Sound familiar?

Odds are you’ve tried to push yourself too far too quickly, even in situations that “should be” positive.

Just like you might start by Google-searching “rock climbing gyms near me,” it’s best to start somewhere more safe when it comes to easing your body into experiencing more joy. What that looks like will vary person to person, so explore.

Feeling anxious? Sweaty? Scale it back a bit more. Ironically enough, sometimes scaling back is the best way to move forward.

And hey, give yourself some freaking love!!! That’s a win, baby.
